Photos and video are taken at SemRede and published here, in the chat and the forum, and by people posting their own afterwards. If you do not want to appear, here is how to say so.
Saying no
Wear the X
Wear a clip with a white X somewhere people can see it: on your shirt, your bag strap, your cap. It means do not photograph me, and do not publish anything I am in.
We hand out these clips at the entrance of both venues, so you can pick one up when you arrive. You can also print one at home and bring it.
Photographers at the event are told to look for the X before they shoot, and to skip anyone wearing one.
If you end up in a picture anyway, tell us and it goes away.
No clip at hand? Say it out loud, or draw an X on a piece of tape. It counts the same.
Download the STL32 x 44 mm, prints flat, no supports. Any colour, as long as the X reads from a few metres away.
What we do
What gets published
Talks and workshops are filmed or photographed, and group shots are taken around the venues. Those pictures go up on this site and on NOSTR, where anyone can copy them. Once published, assume it stays published.
We do not publish pictures of anyone wearing the X.
We avoid close shots of children unless the people with them agree first.
We do not tag names to faces, and we do not sell any of it.
Anything you post yourself in the chat or the forum is public and is yours to delete.
Changing your mind
Take it down
You can ask at any time, before or long after the event, and you do not have to explain why. We take this seriously and answer quickly.
Remove it: the picture or the clip comes down from the site.
Blur me: your face is blurred and the picture stays.
All of me: we go through the set and remove everything you are in.
Write to the organizers from your messages, which is encrypted, or grab any of us at the event. If a picture is already spread elsewhere we cannot pull it back from other people's copies, but we take down ours and say so.
Counting
What we count
We count page views, so we know whether any of this is being read. When you leave a page, your browser sends one small message: which page, which site you arrived from (the domain only, never the link), your browser's language, whether your screen is phone, tablet or desktop sized, whether you had been here before, and roughly how long you stayed.
It is encrypted before it leaves your browser and signed with a key that is thrown away on the spot, so nobody, not even the relay carrying it, can tell that two of these came from the same person. There is no cookie, no account, and nothing that outlives the tab you have open. If it cannot be sent at that moment, it waits in your browser and goes out with the next page you open, or it is dropped after two days.
We never look at your address, and we never fingerprint your browser: no canvas, no fonts, no hardware. The relay does see your address, because that is what a relay is, the same as the chat and the forum.
Only the organizers can read what a browser sends, with keys that never leave their own computers. The counting happens there, in their browser. The rest of the moderation team sees the daily totals, never a single visit.
Once sent, it cannot be taken back: the key that signed it is gone, so it stays on the relays, unreadable, for good.
/login, /messages and /admin are never counted. What you do with your own account is nobody's business.
If your browser asks not to be tracked, with Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is counted at all. Brave has that on by default. You can also just say no:
